Masato Kakinoki [aka abirdwhale] is a musician, film-music composer and vocalist. His career has seen him as visiting artist and postdoctoral researcher at EAVI, Goldsmiths, University of London, and at CRiSAP, LCC, University of the Arts London, funded by Pola Art Foundation.

While he is versatile with sound, visual and improvisational performance through his various projects, now he conducts research-based art practice, where he is not restricted to his familiar media. He is working on projects related to his areas of interest: the culinary culture and human history, and the sexual and romantic culture and human history. He has performed at various places including The ArtReview Bar and Cafe OTO [London];International Conference on Live Interfaces [Porto]; GENERATE!° Festival (Tübingen); Tallinn Music Week Festival and DOMMUNE [Tokyo]. His prize-winning works have been broadcasted on BBC Radio 3, and are released by PROGRESSIVE FOrM.
